Choosing a flow for your campaign goal

Pick the right flow for reviews, repeat purchases, or product education, choose between Swapt email and Klaviyo, and deliver rewards that work at checkout.

The flow is what customers experience after they scan, so it has the biggest effect on your results. The closer it matches your campaign's goal, the better it performs. This guide helps you choose. For how to build one, see Flow Builder.

You don't have to start from a blank canvas. The Flows page has a Templates section: click Use Template to get your own copy to edit. Templates also appear when you pick a flow for a campaign in Select Flow.

Three common goals

Get more reviews

Best for: new launches, products with few reviews, and products already rated 4 stars or higher.

Ask for the review once the customer has used the product and is most likely to say something nice. A good pattern:

  • Add a Rating field to your form.
  • Use an If / Then Branch on that Form Field. Happy customers see a Product Review Button that takes them to the public review page. Unhappy customers see a private feedback form, so you can fix the problem before it turns into a public review.

Always follow the review platform's rules. Amazon, for example, doesn't allow incentivized reviews. Never offer a discount or gift in exchange for a review on a platform that bans it. Keep your review ask neutral, and keep any reward separate from it. See Staying Amazon-compliant with QR inserts.

Grow repeat purchases and subscriptions

Best for: consumables people use up and reorder, like supplements, coffee, skincare, pet food, and cleaning supplies.

Offer a discount in exchange for subscribing or reordering. Products with a predictable reorder cycle (every 30, 60, or 90 days) are the best fit.

  • Test your offer. Try different discounts, like 10% off once versus 15% off a subscription, to find what grows lifetime value without hurting your margin. A Random Split or an A/B Test makes this easy.
  • Set expectations on the success page. Tell subscribers when their next shipment arrives and how to manage their subscription. It cuts support tickets and cancellations.

Deliver product information

Best for: products that need setup, have many uses, or benefit from explanation, like electronics, supplements, beauty, and food.

Share how-to videos, usage tips, ingredients, care instructions, or certifications right when customers scan. It turns confused customers into fans and cuts returns caused by misuse.

  • Keep it short. Use videos under a minute, bullet points, and bold headlines. Most people read this on their phone seconds after unboxing.
  • Grow your list at the same time. Put bonus content, like a recipe book or an advanced tutorial, behind an email sign-up.

Swapt email or Klaviyo?

Every flow can follow up by email. You can send it straight from Swapt, or hand the customer to Klaviyo.

Swapt emailKlaviyo
How it worksSend Email steps in your flow. See Email.Klaviyo: Add to List and Klaviyo: Track Event steps pass customers to Klaviyo, and your Klaviyo flows send the emails.
Pick it if youDon't use Klaviyo, use it lightly, want everything in one place, or are just getting started with email.Already run active, well-tuned Klaviyo flows, have a team managing Klaviyo day to day, or need Klaviyo's segmentation and reporting.

Most brands do well with Swapt email. It covers follow-ups, review reminders, and repeat-purchase nudges with no extra tool to manage. If you choose Klaviyo, see Using Klaviyo with Swapt.

Don't send two welcome emails. If Klaviyo already sends a welcome series when someone joins your list, leave the welcome Send Email step out of your Swapt flow.

Where your emails send from

If you use Swapt email, check the sending badge on the Email page. Sending from your own domain (for example, mail.yourbrand.com) needs a few DNS records added by whoever manages your domain. Start that early. On some accounts, flow emails don't send at all until a domain is verified.

Whichever you use, click Send test before launch to check the sender name, the address, and how the email looks on a phone.

Is email enough?

Even one well-timed follow-up can lift reviews and repeat purchases, so add at least one if your goal is reviews, repeat purchases, or long-term engagement. You can also follow up by text with Send SMS (if it's switched on for your account) or through a connected SMS app like Attentive or Postscript. See Node reference.

Delivering rewards

If your page promises a reward, make sure it arrives, and that it works at checkout.

Hand out the code with an Apply Promotion step. Put it after the form and before the success page, so the code is ready when the customer lands there. See Promotions.

Choose how the customer gets it.

  • On the success page: add a Promotion block. This is the simplest option when you aren't sending the code by email.
  • By email: send it with a Send Email step, or pass it to Klaviyo. Then have the success page say something like "Your reward is on its way to your inbox."
  • Auto-applied on Shopify: turn on Apply to Order, and add a success-page button that links to https://yourstore.com/discount/{promotion.promotionalCode.code} (with your store's address). The customer's code is applied when they reach your store.

Avoid sending the code twice. If Klaviyo or a Send Email step already delivers the code, leave Send Notification off on the Apply Promotion step.

Keep codes clean

  • Make codes for the channel they'll be used on. Amazon codes come from Seller Central, and Shopify codes from your Shopify store. If you sell on both, set up codes for each channel separately. Never reuse one code across channels.
  • Use one-time codes so a code can't spread on coupon sites.
  • Test a code at the real checkout on Amazon or Shopify before launch. A code that looks fine in Swapt but fails at checkout is a fast way to lose customers' trust on day one.

For step-by-step code setup and troubleshooting, see Setting up and troubleshooting discount codes.
